Flavours and Pricing
We will no longer be making gluten free cakes, with the exception of our prior gluten free customers, who are happy with this product. This is due to the fact that some people expect these cakes to be like our other cakes in taste. They are not, and can never be. For this reason most bakeries and cake shoppes will no longer do the gluten free cakes. Your cake should be great to look at, but even better to eat, so don't hesitate to give your guests something that they'll remember. See the link below for some popular flavor combinations. Some basic flavors are white, yellow, spice, banana, light chocolate, chocolate fudge, strawberry, raspberry, golden almond, macadamia, hazelnut, coconut, pumpkin, carrot, orange, lemon, traditional British rich fruitcake, red velvet, butter rum, cheesecakes, and many others. These cakes can be "tweaked" with any number of different spices, flavored syrups, and different fillings to make the cake unique. Cakes are covered in either traditional buttercream, meringue buttercream, or rolled fondant. Cakes can be layered with a variety of tempting flavors, such as buttercreams flavored with fruit, chocolate or liquers; fruit preserves; chocolate fudge filling; white chocolate or dark chocolate truffle; and a rich white-chocolate cream cheese filling. Cheesecakes are available in the following rich flavors: lemon, classic New York, white chocolate raspberry, lime, English toffee, chocolate hazelnut, cranberry swirl, chocolate, pumpkin, and peppermint. Please feel free to email or call with questions. To Freeze Or Not To Freeze? The tradition of freezing the top tier of the wedding cake to share on your first anniversary is an old one, but there are several things to keep in mind when freezing a cake. First, be aware that the traditional wedding cake was a heavy fruitcake (not the same kind that we eat in America at Christmas, this kind actually tasted good). In England, fruitcake is still the traditional type of cake made for weddings. Fruitcake can easily be frozen and will still taste good after a year. However, most American wedding cakes are butter cakes, and therein lies the problem. To successfully freeze a butter cake takes a little more doing than you might think. The key is to wrap the cake after it's had some time in the fridge, then keep wrapping it in a number of layers of plastic and getting it as airtight as possible. If you choose to freeze the top tier of a cake that you buy from me I will give you detailed instructions on how to freeze and defrost the tier. Following are some combinations that have proven to be popular for weddings: "Traditional" Cakes Almond- Golden almond cake with a rich amaretto buttercream filling. This is one of my more popular flavors, and is a mellow almond flavor instead of being overpowering, as many almond cakes can be. Raspberry Cream- A rich yellow cake layered with raspberry buttercream and raspberry preserves. White Truffle- A buttery white cake filled with white chocolate truffle filling and raspberry or strawberry preserves. Cherry Vanilla- White cake with a cherry buttercream filling. Chocolate and Nut Cakes Double Chocolate- Rich chocolate fudge filling combined with a dense chocolate cake. This is the cake that convinces many brides to have a chocolate wedding cake! Chocolate Mint- A buttery white cake which is torted, then layered with chocolate truffle filling and creme de menthe buttercream. This can also be made with flecks of chocolate in the cake itself, and is an unusual and delicious combination of flavors for a cake. Chocolate Raspberry- Dense chocolate cake featuring a fudge filling and raspberry preserves. A nice change of pace from the all-chocolate cake. Chocolate Cherry- Rich chocolate cake with a filling of fudge and cherries. Chocolate Macadamia- A buttery nut cake, subtly flavored with ground macadamia nuts and layered with fudge filling. As one of my customers commented, "this is a special cake." Chocolate Nut- A rich nut cake with chocolate truffle filling. Cake can be hazelnut, macadamia, walnut or pecan. Nice for a fall wedding. Chocolate Creme Mint- Fudgy chocolate cake with creme de menthe buttercream. Almond Truffle- Golden almond cake with a rich chocolate truffle filling. Amaretto Crunch- White cake with a layer of amaretto buttercream and crushed almonds. Hazelnut Cream- White cake with frangelico buttercream and chocolate truffle fillings. White Hazelnut- White cake with a rich hazelnut chocolate truffle filling. Cherry Almond- A buttery yellow cake with chunks of cherries and almonds in the cake. Layered with amaretto buttercream. White Almond Truffle- Almond cake with a sweet white chocolate truffle filling. Also available in chocolate cakes- chocolate flavored with any kind of liquer, such as kahlua, amaretto, and grand marnier. Fruit and Coconut Cakes Lemon - a sweet-tart cake that features cake layered with lemon buttercream. Also available with lemon curd filling, which is a tangy/sweet lemon flavor. Banana Truffle- Rich Banana cake combined with chocolate truffle filling. Strawberry- Strawberry cake filled with a rich strawberry buttercream. Coconut Bar- White cake layered with coconut buttercream and chocolate fudge. Orange Blossom- A subtle orange cake layered with Grand Marnier buttercream. Pina Colada- A fun combination, this is a moist coconut cake with pina colada buttercream. Orange Spice- A lightly spiced orange cake with rum, amaretto and cocoa flavors in the cake and fillings. You can also look to other types of desserts for flavor inspiration. A favorite ice cream, pie, or candy bar can often provide ideas for cake and filling combinations that you might not have considered otherwise. For example, tiramisu, key lime pie, and ice creams flavors can all be translated into cakes. Paige's Cakes and Desserts ![]() Proudly Serving the Hamilton/Burlington Area Office 398 Mohawk Rd.
